A13-OLinuXino video problem is fixed and board works correctly now


We made simple hardware fix for the software initialization probelm with A13 video generation.

The fix require just one transistor and 1 resistor and we will include these to the new REV.C

The boards which we have now in stock from Revision B will be patched so we will ship now boards with fixed video.

For all developers who already received boards from Rev.B I will post here how they can do the fix by themself, it’s pretty easy!

We just got message on Twitter that Mouser now lists A13-OLinuXino and they are ready to take orders. Note that we will supply Mouser with the new fixed Revision C of the board about the end of the month, so they will actually start shipping A13-OLinuXino not earlier than middle of October.

We have some small quantity from Rev.B in stock, which we will sell on our web shop and we are goinf to fix the video on all of these.

    I’d bet 3 of the resistors go to the R G B analog signals to the DE15 connector, the base of the transistor has the other resistor going to the sync signal, emitter to gnd, collector to the junction of the three resistors.

    Installed the mod and it works well, Now, how about how to change the resolution to something other than 800 x 600.

      Allwinner says A13 video clock can’t be more than 40Mhz which limits the resolution to 800×600, but many things they said were not exactly true so we have to play some more in the higher resolution direction before we are sure this is the limit ;)

        The A13 is explicitly made for cheap Android tablets with a maximum resolution of 800×600. I doubt that you will be able to bring it to 1024×768.
        Someone should make an A13 tablet with the unused GPIO’s routed to accessible pads.

        What is the resolution & specs of the 7″ LCD shown in the demo video? When will it be available, and for how much.
        How does one change the resolution if 800 x 600 is max, then to something like 852 x 480 or 640 x 480?
        It was shown running simultaneously with the VGA display. was the LCD 800 x 600?

        the LCD 7″ is 800×480 pixels
        we will offer it by the end of the month, the price is EUR 45 just for the LCD module and EUR 55 for the LCD+TouchScreen resistive panel
        you can change the resolution very easily to any size with the Allwinner FEL tool, we work on document where to explain how to do this
        yes, on the video we run the VGA 800×600 and connect on the same time LCD and as you can see LCD displays just upper 480 lines of the video stream :)

    I used a ZVN3306F which is marked MC, I also used a 1.0k resistor, no issues with either.
    For anyone interested is Software Defined Radio, glSDR(7) runs nicely on the A13 board

      please check LinuxSunxi.org for the uboot and kernel which are already in working state
      the LCD7-TP will be in stock by end of the month which means 2 weeks later will be at Mouser and Digikey

    I see your using both the LCD and VGA output how does this work, since you use the same bus. Does the board needs to know its driving VGA or LCD or doesn’t this matter (same resolution)? cause i could think about VSync and HSync used for the LCD and VGA could differ in frequency.

    Anyway I’m planning to get me a A13-board soon, to do some video interfacing, waiting patiently for the 7″ LCD to go with it.

      VGA is 800×600 LCD is 800×480 so no problem both to work together just on the LCD there will be 120 missing lines in the bottom :)
      as VGA uses buffers it doesn’t spoil the LCD signals at all

    When I connect the video output from the imx233 to the monitor video input, the left 3 or 4 columns of characters, several characters on the right of the screen, and several rows on the bottom of the screen are not off the screen. I assume that there is some group of video settings that I need to fix…..?
