  1. #8 just edges it I think – all the entries are very good though!

    #8

  9. Ionut Grigorescu says:

    #14 Looks cool

  10. Emiliano Daddario says:

I made logo #6 (the logo on the left must be read from the bottom up) but I vote for #14, because I have no chance to compete with the contest leader. All the logos are very good

  11. Johan Winäs says:

    #8

  12. Niii says:

    Dinosaur for sure ! (#13)

  13. linuxer says:

    I like numer #12

Why are people using “shamelessly fake” nicknames in one or two comments, just for a prize worth a few euros? The contest is just a game. It even seems like some people are willfully mocking Olimex and all the people here. This is sad (and funny at the same time), however I don’t give a heck about it, because the votes will only choose the prize winner and not necessarily the official logo. Do whatever you want, ask your friends to vote, but please stop mocking us all with r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s nicknames.

I already voted #14, and now I’d like to vote #13, too. Can I?

    • OLIMEX Ltd says:

sure you can vote for more than 1 logo

    • OLIMEX Ltd says:

btw no need to be pranoid, I can see the IPs and I can assure you all comments are from different IPs :)

      • Emiliano Daddario says:

Really? Did “anotherolimexcustomer” even make the effort of changing its IP? :D I wasn’t arguing about IPs or friends voting, I don’t care about it as long as the best idea is choosen for the official logo (apart from the prize), because I’m a potential purchaser, and I stay positive. At least I’m almost sure that the word “linux” will be on the board :D

      • OLIMEX Ltd says:

aaaah I guess some ppl want to stay anonymous and are not so creative with the nicks
btw my wife like #6 most she thinks it’s very cute to make these letters with pinguinos :) although I do not see easy way to print them on PCB

      • Emiliano Daddario says:

If you give a PCB with the penguin-shaped letters to your wife as a gift, please make another one for me too, I would pay the difference :D Seriously, I don’t know if I prefer the #14 “happy customer jumping on the air”, or the #13 with the “O” laid over the tail and the “X” in harmony with the angle on the back of the animal (did you all notice that?).

  15. andr5 says:

  16. ern0 says:

It’s okay to discuss on FB, but it is not a good idea to decide anything upon number of likes. Anyway, #8 is the only one which is clean and has no unnecessary over-symbolism. Colors should be choosen carefully, maybe a gray version would be nice.

    • OLIMEX Ltd says:

sure, our choice will be not influenced by the number of votes, but we would like to hear what our customers think, unfortunately some people try to abuse this voting and I just removed few entries with same IP for #8 and will remove #8 from the voting at all, cheating is not tolerated

  17. Numbers 8 and 14 are good as they are, but if you are planning to send it off to be professionally done, I have to say that 18 has the most potential. The Linux penguin with an LED idea bulb captures everything Olinuxino stands for – open innovation for tinkerers with a bright idea. The submitted entry doesnt have the graphical polish and flair of 8 and 14, but a good artist can give you that… the originality of the idea gets my vote.

  18. Adrien PAQUET says:

I’m the author of the #14 (with an error on my name in the text).
I vote for my logo #14.

I have multiple design in mind before this when i asked one question : Why “OLinuXino” ?
I mean : “why i will buy this board ?” AND “why this name ?” I came with this :
    - O : for Olimex company or maybe Open ?
    - Linux : for the OS (open source)
    - ino : for the arduino concept (modular open hardware with the UEXT)

So, when i buy an OLinuXino, i have an Open source OS in an modular Open Hardware Board. A strong combination, explained by the capital X (cross) between these two entities.

So, i wanted my logo pure, like :
    - “Linu” in computer font,
    - “ino” in a PCB font (so i take the Olimex PCB logo)
    - A big cross “X” between the two like a powerful fusion
    - And the hand font “o” on the top of the X like something not really defined, meaning Olimex, Open, or maybe a happy customer jumping on the air !
    And that’s it !

However, I like the others logos (like the professional #8, the cute #13, the twin #5…). Good work to all artist !
Maybe the others can speak about their logos or ideas ?
Especially why the “dinosaur” #13 ?

  19. wastebin says:

    number 8. Definitely.

  20. It’s a dinosaurs… :) Why? The idea behind the dinosaurs is actually quite simple. I thought why not a nice mascot. Like the many other open source projects. So, ino, dino and the my idea was born. And who does not like a cute dino on his board? :D

Thanks for all the nice comments and votes.

  21. cnxsoft says:

Since we can vote for several logos: #8 and #13

  22. Adem says:

    Number #14 is good

  23. Dreistein says:

    [Hashtag]13 for me :]

  24. Beat says:

    8 is great

  25. V7r says:

    13 is good

    YOU CAN FIND THEM HERE!!!

AND I POST THEM HERE AGAIN!!!

I bet for something without references, clean, simple, iconic, easy to identify, easy to adapt to any OLinuXino family / board / version / geometry / space, something made to last, using open source fonts.

That’s why I made a proposal with two concentric ‘O’, for Open and Olimex, and an X inside for olimeX and linuX, complemented with some ‘freesans’ text.

PLEASE, RESTART DE CONTEST WITH A FAIR VOTING SYSTEM (FACEBOOK?)

  28. #4 & $14 for karma
#8 for a good logo for marketing (take over the market is important) and nice, right colors
#12 for retro market (but who knows vinils now?)
#16 for a good B&W logo (if B&W is a design issue, I think no, all of the rest can be trasformed to B&W)
#21 I like it because remembers me a step-by-step rotary but I think the others are better

  29. Michal says:

hmm for printing on a PCB B&W (1bit) is a must.

    That disqualifies #1 and #6.

#6 would be nice otherwise and given the unique shape quite recognizable.

#8 is a simple text. It’s well made and could be made quite small to fit some little piece of space on otherwise crowded PCB if needed.

If cleaned up and polished something in the range #15 – #18 would be uniquely shaped logo which is immediately recognizable. Not that #8 is not but these would stand out more at a larger size.

#14 is cool but has serious readability problems

#13 is cute but do you want to be another project with dinosaur mascot?
Sure, it would be nice if somebody came up with something otehr than tux that fits the project but it should also be something that not many projects use so far.

    • Emiliano Daddario says:

Hey, why are you disqualifying my logos? :-) Never mind, you probably didn’t notice the big black and white logo on the left of my picture (#6). The other two logos in my picture aren’t B&W, but if someone asks to make a B&W version with the same shape, it’s not hard to make one (just outline the light-colored areas and then make them white, it’s easy!). However, none of my logos will be the winner.

About #14, I like it, and if you ever looked at professional logos around the world, you may already know that they often have intentional “readability problems”; I’d call them “abstractions” rather than “problems”, just my two cents.

      • Emiliano Daddario says:

        “light areas”, not “light-colored areas”

      • Michal says:

I see professional logos daily in the ads. They might use somewhat odd and unique letter shapes but they *are* readable. For one they tend to preserve somewhat sane letter ordering. Not one letter on top, next on far left, etc.

If that thing on the left is supposed to be a logo it has even worse readability problem. You can’t really tell if it’s just an ornament or if it’s supposed to mean something.

      • Emiliano Daddario says:

@Michal, sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant “if you ever looked for”. I mean that I did an image search for inspiration before making my own logos, and so I noticed that some professional logos are almost unreadable, but of course you are absolutely right about many other logos. I’m glad you liked some of my logos. I’m the only one who likes most the “unreadable” logo in #6 :-) you have a good sense of taste. Goodbye :)

      • Michal says:

Well, it’s completely possible that logos such as yours b&w logo appear everywhere but I never notice them because they are completely unreadable and have no other obvious connection to a product/company/whatever so I think of them as weird decoration.

Now if you take the logo on the top it is quite whacky and using odd shaped letters but unlike #14 it is still redable.
