Devuan is Debian fork to get rid of so much disputed SystemD used in the newer version of Debian.
We were nice surprised to see that there are pre-built images for Devuan Jessie for A10-OLinuXino-LIME, A20-OLinuXino-LIME, A20-OLinuXino-MICRO and A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 in the file repository: http://files.devuan.org/
So now you have this option to run on OLinuXino!

Interesting. Bananian Linux tries to get rid of systemd in Jessie that way: http://pastebin.com/6SwZ0fS7
(installing “sysvinit-core sysvinit sysvinit-utils” and creating a one time start script that does an “apt-get remove –yes –purge –auto-remove systemd” the next time the host reboots)
BTW: The images for the armhf architecture provided there are just boot stuff without rootfs.

Could someone more knowledgeable than myself please combine the provided images with the rootfs so that the image is ready and usable? Or provide me clear instructions on how to do so myself? Thanks 🙂

On other hand, systemd provides great facilities to do services supervision. It includes process start and stop timeouts handling, ability to run unit when other unit fails, it can reboot system for you, if critical process failed and it have got quite appealing watchdog API, so it’s possible to check if particular process is alive, just as we always did in microcontrollers. And if systemd itself locks up, hardware watchdog would reboot whole system. Looks very reasonable to me and helps me a lot implementing my emdedded stuff here and there.
So, while it’s all about choice, I would admit systemd proven to be very good thing for embedded designs. Implementing all it does myself would be nightmare.
