## Friday Free Board Quiz – the prize is ESP8266-EVB and the question is: what is the size of 0603 capacitor?

ESP8266-EVB is open source hardware WiFi board which you can program with Arduino IDE and connect things to Internet.

You can win this board! To participate in the Quiz is enough to re-tweet the Twitter Quiz announcement message.

The Quiz question is: What is the size of 0603 capacitor?

You have time to re-tweet and/or answer until Monday 15th of February.

In Monday we will post the correct answer and ask random.org to generate random number in range then announce the winner and ship the board by post/airmail.

Good Luck!

There’s both an imperial and a metric ”0603” package… The metric one is 0,6×0,3 mm² (very, very tiny), the imperial one is 60×30 mil² = 0,06″×0,03″ = 1,6mm × 0,8mm. But I think generally people mean the imperial sizes when they talk about, e.g. a “0805 resistor”.

I wouldn’t really trust any standard “thickness” with SMD caps, I’ve seen a few surprisingly tall ones.

Well it all depends if you are referring to 0603 EIA or 0603 Metric. It is so annoying that there could be to different 0603 but they do. As Alexander said, 0603 EIA is:
L:1.6mm
H: 0.91mm
W: 0.81mm

And 0603 Metric (is equivalent to 0201 EIA) the measurements are:
L: 0.6mm
H:0.3mm
W:0.3mm

Case code 0603 (EIA English) and 1608 (IEC metric) is .063 x .031″ in English and 1.6 x .8 mm in metric.

The 0603 EIA size code is 1.6mm x 0.8mm. Height depends on the voltage and capacity.

8. Depth 0.81 mm. Height 0.35 mm. Width 1.6 mm.

vogelchr said it best — there’s both the metric and imperial. After years of working with smd components I just learned that the 0603 actually specifies the dimensions after looking up a size chart for them. I could believe I missed such an obvious thing for so long! Still, capacitors do vary a lot within 0603, unlike resistors.

60 mil x 30 mil

10. Typically 60×30 mil, +/- (about) 3 mil

Typically size of 0603
in Inches: 0.063 +/- 0.004 x 0.031 +/- 0.004
in mm: 1,6 +/- 0,1 x 0,8 +/- 0,1

size of 0603 in inches is 0.063 +/- 0.004 x 0.031 +/- 0.004
And in mm 1,6 +/- 0,1 x 0,8 +/- 0,1

13. As you described on your capacitor product page the SMD Capacitor 0603 size is :
0.06″ x 0.03″ (1.6mm x 0.8 mm)

14. As you described on your capacitor product page the SMD Capacitor 0603 size is : 0.06″ x 0.03″ (1.6mm x 0.8 mm)

0603 SMD Capacitor size is
0.06″ x 0.03″
Or
1.6mm x 0.8 mm in metric system

Best regards

17. Typical size is 1,60 x 0.80 mm

18. Typical dimensions are 1.60 x 0.80 mm for EIA 0603 SMD components

19. SMD 0603 (Imp) size : 1.6 mm × 0.8 mm or 0.063 in × 0.031 in
SMD 0603 (Metric) size : 0.6 mm × 0.3 mm or 0.024 in × 0.012 in

Thx.
