This year TuxCon Open Source Hardware and Software conference will be on 8 and 9th of June in Plovdiv.

This year the talks on 8th of June will be record numbers – 16 and will be held in 2 halls, there will be very interesting topics for FPGA, Home Automation, Car tuning, Linux, Robotics.

On June 9th there will be traditional soldering workshop in Olimex’s training building. We will have kits both for starters with just PTH components and for these who want to master SMD technology.

TuxCon is free to participate event, made by volunteers with aim to popularize the free and open source software and hardware.

More Tuxcon activities in Plovdiv

Tuxcon is non for profit organization run by volunteers, with goal to promote open source technology in Plovdiv.

Once per year this organization make Tuxcon conference, but this year they didn’t stop with just this event.

In May they made with the help of Smarty Kids workshop for kids, where introduction to programming of Arduino and ESP8266 boards was present :

TuxCon 2018 was in June and had so many proposals for talks this year, that the two halls couldn’t accommodate them all.

So in July one separate event for Home automation was made with Miroslav Petrov.

Miroslav talked about Domoticz and how to install it on A20-OLinuXino-MICRO:

For those who didn’t manage to come here is the Miroslav’s workshop web page.

What I hear is that the success of these events encourage the Tuxcon organizers to think about to make such every month 🙂 Keep the good work!

BurgasConf is this Saturday 30th of June (of course in Burgas) looking forward to see you there

BourgasConf

BurgasConf is part of IT Tour – traveling IT events organized with the help of the local Burgas hacker space BurgasLab.

This Saturday it will start at 10.00 in Flora Expo Center.

Usually IT tour is focused more on Software than on Hardware, but this time we will try to change it a bit with Hardware related talk about the Flash memories.

These who come to the talk will learn about who invented the Flash memories, who are the major players and what are the trends. How the different Flash memories work, what we should know about how they wear and what precautions to take to minimize this, also are there security risks involved with their use.

We will not go in deep technical details, but enough to people learn what Flash memory is best for their application.

So looking forward to see you there!

FOSDEM 2017 is approaching, are you ready for soldering workshops and playing with TERES-I DIY Hacker’s friendly OSHW laptop?

fosdem

FOSDEM is the biggest event in Europe about Open Source technologies.

Every year thousands of FOSS/OSHW enthusiasts and professionals meet in Brussels in ULB (Universite Libre de Bruxelles) in 41 Dev Rooms and talk about interesting problems they have faced during the year.

We just got e-mail that Olimex is approved for booth there!

So prepare for soldering workshop fun with the OSHW-GHOST and FOSDEM-85!

TERES-I Do It Yourself Hacker’s friendly modular Laptop designed completely with KiCAD will be also present at the booth.

KiCAD developers are in EDA room and as far I heard there will be very interesting tutorials and how-to’s examples how to implement simple new commands and extensions to KiCAD for people who want to contribute code.

So plan in advance your flight to Brussels, we looking forward to see you there 4th and 5th of February 2017!

FOSDEM 2016 is approaching and the schedule is now published – Free and Open Source Software and Hardware event

FOSDEM2016

FOSDEM the biggest and coolest Open Source event in Europe is at the last weekend in January.

If you don’t know what FOSDEM is or you never have been there you missed a lot of beer and fun 🙂

Thousands of people who love Libre Free Open Source technology come together once per year in Bruxelles and share what they did during the pass year.

The schedule is already complete and you can check at https://fosdem.org/2016/schedule/tracks/

We have small talk about A64-OLinuXino in EDA room to share our experience with KiCAD during the PCB development.

We wanted to make free SMT soldering workshop like we did back in 2013 on FOSDEM, but the workshop was declined.

I do remember there were lot of hesitation for the workshop in 2013 as the Libre University of Bruxelles where FOSDEM take place didn’t want to allow soldering to be made in the University without some special permissions due to risk of fire etc.

So guys if you want to participate in our next free soldering workshop you have to come to TuxCon or OpenFest in Bulgaria 🙂
