Allwinner released T2 SOC working -40+85C targeting automotive entertainment, it’s re-branded A20 with expanded operating temperature

Allwinner released recently their T2 SOC targeting automotive entertainment panels.
Looking at the specs we saw that it suspiciously looks like A20.

This is not the first time Allwinner releases their old silicons under new names like A13-R8, A33-R16, R40-T3 etc.  I personally find this quite confusing.

We got some T2 samples and now assembly A20-OLinuXino-LIME, A20-OLinuXino-LIME2, A20-OLinuXino-MICRO and A20-SOM with them to test for hardware and software compatibility.
Once we are sure everything works OK will release T2-OLinuXino boards which will be with industrial temperature grade -40+85C for all components on the boards.

To this moment all our A20-XXX-IND boards has components for or exceeding -45+85C, but A20 SOC was specified -20+70C.

Sitara System On Modules expands with new processor AM3359 and SLC NAND Flash option

  • AM3359-SOM-512-IND with 512MB SLC NAND Flash on board

Sitara internal bootloader do not handle well big NAND Flash memories, so for the moment 512MB is what we can use with current design.

SOM204 version with eMMC will be available by the end of this year and it will allow up to 64GB eMMC Flash options.

 

A20-OLINUXINO-MICRO now available also in Industrial temperature grade -45+85C

We are selling for some time already A20-OLinuXino-MICRO Rev.J where few things were improved:

  1. We changed the LAN PHY from Realtek to Microchip as latter is more reliable supplier for both commercial and industrial temperature components, we searched desperately Realtek PHY in industrial temperature grade but without success.
  2. We extended the input working voltage from 6-16VDC to 8-24VDC
  3. We changed the NAND Flash to eMMC (but old NAND style flash is still possible to assembly)

The Ethernet PHY change requires new patches on the Uboot and Linux images which are already uploaded.

New Sitara AM3352-SOM-IND with industrial grade components work from -40C up to +85C

Our popular AM3352-SOM module now is available in industrial temperature grade -40+85C under name AM3352-SOM-IND.

MT41K256M16HA-125IT:E memory used is with -40+95C operating temperature.

AM3352BZCZA100 processor used from Texas Instruments  is with -40+105C operating temperature.

AM3352-SOM-IND module can be evaluated with AM3352-SOM-EVB.

Debian Linux distribution is officially distributed, but recent patch add support for AM3352-SOM in Beaglebone kernel

LIME2 get better now with eMMC Flash A20-OLinuXino-LIME2-eMMC

A20-OLinuXino-LIME2-eMMC was developed first for customer of ours, but after we saw the result we decided that it’s good to add it in our web shop.

What difference make eMMC instead of NAND Flash?

eMMC behaves like SD-card so no need for special drivers, you write on it as you write on SD-CARD, it’s faster than NAND Flash, and it’s more reliable.

The eMMC Flash we use is industrial grade -40+90C SLC Flash from Micron. All other functionality remains same. Note thatA20-OLinuXino-LIME2-eMMC is still not 100% industrial temperature grade, the DDR3 and Ethernet PHY are in commercial temperature grade (0-90C for the DDR3 and 0-70C for Ethernet PHY), we have industrial grade DDR3 and can build A20-OLinuXino-LIME2-eMMC with such memories,so the next step to complete industrial grade temperature board is to find proper industrial grade Ethernet PHY chip.

The LCD 7″ Metal Frame Box is now in stock. We offer it only in black color.

Inside the frame there is space to assembly A10 or A20 OLinuXino LIME or LIME2:

All connectors of LIME are exposed on two sides on the frame box:

Four M4x8 screws hold together the two parts of the LCD frame, the same can be used to attach the frame to any flat surface.

The LCD assembly is easy to do but involves making frame of dual adhesive tape around the LCD to keep the glass off contact with the metal and to attach the touchscreen if necessary.

We offer this assembly as separate service if one do not want to make it himself. Here is the link for the assembly service – it’s orderable item in the web shop.

Please note that before you add LCD7-ASSEMBLY to your order you also have ordered these items: A10 or A20 OLinuXino LIME or LIME2, LCD-OLinuXino-7 or LCD-OLinuXino-7TS, LCD7-METAL-FRAME and CABLE-40-40-10CM otherwise we can’t do the assembly 🙂

The next logical step is to make Industrial panel. For this purpose we need LIME or LIME2 in industrial temperature grade.

A10/A20 qualify for industrial temperature grade, we also have all other components in this temperature range including the DDR3 memory, but two components preventing us to complete this job: NAND Flash and Ethernet PHY.

We work to solve this and in couple of months we may have in our web shop complete industrial panel solution with LCD, LIME etc in Industrial temperature grade -45+85C .

Today we test the assembled LCD to see if it will work fine when mounted in the metal frame. Everything works fine and the panel is cute:

It has good response and probably we will offer it complete assembled as it needs some skills after all to assembly precisely without breaking the glasses.

These will be run in production … and now time to 10″ metal frame design 🙂
