People who use a cloud app these days have to store their data on servers of the companies that provide the app. Without knowing what will happen to your data and who else has access to it, you are asked to trust those companies – which means you are losing control over your data and privacy!

With REDS.box you know exactly where your files are – on your own server where only you have the access rights.

Maybe Olimex should contact them to fix the errors In their specs and perhaps mention that they are using A20-OLinuXino-LIME inside. They say both devices are Cortex-A8 and the more powerful one is a dual-core Cortex-A8 CPU, even though there’s no such thing as a dual-core Cortex-A8!

Thanks, for this nice article. We really appreciate your support 🙂 Unfortunately you’ve got something wrong, since the REDS.box is not only for file-sharing. In fact the REDS.box can be used with various applications and our file-sharing app REDS.drive is just one of them. You can even develop your own apps with our open source framework REDS.io.

@Shervin, thanks for the hint. We’ve meant Cortex-A7 of course – dunno where the A8 came from ^^ Both devices use an A20-OLinuXino-LIME. We’ll fix that in a minute…

@ Manuti We’ve tried to make the Box as cheap a s possible, but since we’re producing a small batch series, the production costs are quite high right now. We hope to lower the price once we can produce bigger batches.

I think such cloud box can be the next revolution in coding, and hw development if we make and release such cloud sharing box. If Olimex will release the A64 laptop kit, next to it, such cloud kit solution for hackers are can be the Excalibur to the community. Hacking possibility with both hardware can give such opportunity that was in the ancient C-64 times only. Let the people MAKE. One box gives router/cloud function, and the laptop is the portable workstation *AND* controller for almost any projects. I think the future is bright, and sweet. Truly sweet if its contains Olimex.
