Probably many of you wonder why we are so silent recent months and nothing new is posting on the blog. The reason is quite casual – we are overwhelmed with work!
Starting from September something odd happens. Our OLinuXino customers went in crazy mode and we start getting almost twice more orders than usual. All who have been dealing with production know that to double capacity needs time.
This is the reason for the delay with iCE40HX8K-EVB, A64-OLinuXino, TERES release – there is simple no free window on the SMT assembly machines and testers to may run them, the machines are busy with OLinuXino and SOM assembly.
The small orders are shipping on time i.e. in 1-3 working days, but all bigger OLinuXino and SOM orders for 50+ boards are now shipped with a bit of delay as we have quite backlog for these boards.
We apologize to all our established customers which do wonder why the orders which we usually shipped to them in 1 week before, now are shipped with delay of 3-4 weeks.
We assure you that we do everything humanly possible to ship all orders ASAP.
To add little more crazyness the three new Samsung machines arrived two weeks ago. We wanted to build new space for them and working more than year on this, but the lazy and ignorant Bulgarian administration still didn’t issued us permit to start building, so we have to install them in the old building where we run out of space.
One SM471 and two SM482 with printers, loaders, unloaders, conveyors, packed in 20 wooden boxes were unloaded from the containers:
Immediately we start to break walls, extend doors, and other funny things so the big machines may enter the building.
We did same 1 year ago when our first Samsung came, but shortsighted decided to rebuild the walls with intention the new machines to be installed in the new building, without taking into account how long and difficult the building permit is to get in Bulgaria.
Now the three machines are installed and testing, but as you guess they will not run alone, so we will need new employees to train.
New Year – new luck we say here, I hope things will go back from crazy to normal mode in January!
EDIT:
Some words about the machines SM471 is the Samsung fastest and greatest from SM series. It has two heads with 10 nozzles each and dual rail conveyor which allow two different boards to be assembled at same time. With maximal performance 75000 csp (which you never reach on real boards). The machine can place down to 01005 components which are with size 0.4 x 0.2 mm (400 x 200 microns)!
SM482 is flexible mounter which can place both small and big components, we already have one such machine and it performs very well. The listed maximal speed is 28000 cps.
Each SM482 machine comes with full set of 8, 12, 16, 24, 32 mm feeders and tray changer which can hold up to 80 trays with components.
Both SM471 and SM482 support the new splice-less tape feeders which can be load even with component stripes without need to have initial empty cells on the tapes.

Beside walls, those kinds of machines must also be difficult to pass through customs.

we did our homework this time properly, all machines came with certificates for CE compliance and certificates of origin from Samsung, including their serial numbers, so the customs pass was without any delay.

It’s crazy that Bulgarian administration don’t help the company in their country. They should help to obtain more quickly all the permissions officials documents and not contrary. I hope that the administration will change in Bulgaria…

We went through this path two years ago when we made small building next to our old one. It took about 1 year to make all paperwork and get permission, then completed the building in 3 months. I expected something like this again and started earlier, but now the building is bigger and the time to get permit is also bigger. All this mess comes that there are two separate administrations which deal with this, one is keeping cadastre plan with drawings for the land, another is dealing with the permits plan and paperwork review, there are difference between the drawings in the cadastre and the permits plans (do not ask me why – because somebody didn’t do their job properly) and now we have to pay to company to set this in order. This happens every time one wants to build something I do not remember case when drawings to have been in order, or this disorder is kept on purpose to make these companies (which are always connected to this administration somehow) busy. The procedure is very slow as they have to make the changes, to announce to all neighbors, they to agree in written, then this to pass on architects meeting in the local town hall, which meetings are just once per month and can’t review all pending requests.
The funny thing is that near our work place in the free space land there is building which was built on municipality territory totally illegal without any paperwork at cadastre or town hall, but is owned by one of the ethnic party here in Bulgaria. The most ridiculous part is that they didn’t pay any money for it as the project was funded as EU project. They connected illegal to electricity, water, etc and use it for parties, and each summer day at 5.00 PM 20 kW amplifiers start to play loud music. This is industrial area and all companies around filled tons of complains, but they get their protection and nothing happens except that the architect who allowed the building was fired, but building stays intact. No one wants to mess with this party.

That new capacity seems to be badly needed. It is great to see all this delivered. Can’t wait to see it operational. It is pity for the building, though. Building administration is a huge pain in the proverbial ass everywhere in the world but Bulgarian one seems to be among the leaders in the pain department.
Good luck with the install.

Good news – both about the expansion of the capacity and about the growing demand for your products (you shouldn’t complain about that 😀 ). Hope you will be able to catch a little breath and be able to have more time for all the great ideas and new products you have in mind 🙂 Wish you the best for the new year 🙂

Happy to hear the business is growing – hope it’ll be exponential the coming years. The world deserves it 🙂

You can think about creating your own chip by true OSHW.

Even a System-in-Package with an Allwinner it would be very interesting. Like Octave OSD3358 http://octavosystems.com/octavo_products/osd335x/ . The boards will be more compacts if the CPU+GPU+RAM+Flash+PMIC are in the same package. But I think is not easy there are many constraints…

Also, if really September was the start of the busy season maybe you should reconsider the decision of the whole firm taking their summer brake at one and the same time (and stopping production) in August and instead maybe have a longer period of partial vacations with possibly lowered production volume instead.

Are these beauties working in production mode now? 🙂

Judging by the number of views it shouldn’t be too hard to find them. But there is the overhead of interviews, training, etc. Wish you the best and keep us updated 🙂
