New Plastic Box design for A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 with LiPo6600mAh battery

PLASTIC-BOX-ASM1

Few days ago we got parcel with some plastic parts sent to us from Mike Bosschaert.

PLASTIC-BOX-ASM2

we inserted LIME2 inside, the tolerances are tight and it’s hard to put the board in but even harder if you want to pull it from the plastic.

PLASTIC-BOX-ASM3

There is place for LiPO6600mAh battery with holder, but the battery cable is too short to plug in the board connector and need to be cut and extended. If the battery is put at left side of the PCB the cable may be enough.

PLASTIC-BOX-ASM4

The assembled box looks nice! Mike wrote that he designed it with FreeCAD and the model is printed in PLA using a Felix Pro 2 FDM printer. He provided all STL files under CC BY-SA 4.0 licensee and we add to OLINUXINO GitHub repository.

New Product in stock: Metal box for A64-OLinuXino

BOX-A64

BOX-A64-BLACK is metal box with PVC black coating for A64-OLinuXino

The box comes with all necessary fasteners for board assembly inside the box and four rubber feets.

Opening for external antenna is provided although current A64-OLinuXino revision has no WiFi module with U.FL connector inside. We work on next revision where this will be fixed and A64-OLinuXino board will be possible to order with internal or external antenna.

A64-OLinuXino got new metal box design

A64-1

After the blog for KODI image lot of people sent emails asking if we will release metal box for A64-OLinuXino, as it actually works very well as media player and can play 4K video @30fps according to Jernej:

Some remarks about blog post content:
"Both A20 and A64 decode up to 4K movies but of course can’t
display such resolutions." - A64 is actually capable displaying
such resolutions. It supports up to 4K@30Hz. Kodi will render
hardware decoded 4K videos without downsizing when connected
to 4K TV/monitor.

So we start working on this and here is the result:

А64-3

Now we have to laser-cut and bend some boxes and see if it’s done right 🙂

Metal Frame Box for OLinuXino LIME with 7″ LCD is now in stock

LCD7-METAL-FRAME

The LCD 7″ Metal Frame Box is now in stock. We offer it only in black color.

Inside the frame there is space to assembly A10 or A20 OLinuXino LIME or LIME2:

LCD7-METAL-FRAME-2

All connectors of LIME are exposed on two sides on the frame box:

LCD7-METAL-FRAME-3

and from other side:

LCD7-METAL-FRAME-4

Four M4x8 screws hold together the two parts of the LCD frame, the same can be used to attach the frame to any flat surface.

The LCD assembly is easy to do but involves making frame of dual adhesive tape around the LCD to keep the glass off contact with the metal and to attach the touchscreen if necessary.

We offer this assembly as separate service if one do not want to make it himself. Here is the link for the assembly service – it’s orderable item in the web shop.

Please note that before you add LCD7-ASSEMBLY to your order you also have ordered these items: A10 or A20 OLinuXino LIME or LIME2, LCD-OLinuXino-7 or LCD-OLinuXino-7TS, LCD7-METAL-FRAME and CABLE-40-40-10CM otherwise we can’t do the assembly 🙂

The next logical step is to make Industrial panel. For this purpose we need LIME or LIME2 in industrial temperature grade.

A10/A20 qualify for industrial temperature grade, we also have all other components in this temperature range including the DDR3 memory, but two components preventing us to complete this job: NAND Flash and Ethernet PHY.

We work to solve this and in couple of months we may have in our web shop complete industrial panel solution with LCD, LIME etc in Industrial temperature grade -45+85C .

Beautiful metal boxes for A20-OLinuXino-MICRO in stock, boxes for LIME and LIME2 in production

A20-MICRO-A-1

The A20-OLinuXino-MICRO metal boxes BOX-A20-MICRO-A are in stock! The first batch is with Black top cover and Black base. There are four other colors on painting operation for the base: Red, Green, Blue and Silver.

What you see above is MODEL-A which is 155 x 95 x 30 mm. This is the top cover:

A20-MICRO-A-3

This is base:

A20-MICRO-A-2

They assembly together with single M3 screw:

A20-MICRO-A-8

On the sides there are openings to press the A20-OLinuXino-MICRO buttons and to exit ribbon cables connected to inside sockets. The A20-OLinuXino-MICRO inside is mounted on 6mm hex spacers:

A20-MICRO-A-5

And there are rubber feets on bottom:

A20-MICRO-A-6

Box is very solid and with excellent texture painting which do not allow greasy fingerprints 🙂 (well I guess it depends how greasy the fingers are).

BOX-A20-MICRO-B has ventilation openings and provision SATA 2.5″ Hard drive to be mounted inside:

A20-MICRO-B-1

Here is how SATA drive is mounted on the top cover:

A20-MICRO-B-4

The A20-OLinuXino-MICRO inside is also put on hex spacers:

A20-MICRO-B-3

this is closed box with SATA drive mounted inside:

A20-MICRO-B-5

Here is same box on bottom:

A20-MICRO-B-6

A20-OLinuXino-LIME/LIME2 boxes are also in production and will be in stock next week. Here is the preliminary prototype:

LIME1

LIME2

These boxes are small 100 x 65 x 25 mm, there is no provision for SATA drive inside, if one wants to make server has to put the drive and UPS battery outside. As you can see A20-LIME has just single hex spacer as the design is so dense that no space to put more mounting holes on the board.

Next week we will have another news: Beautiful metal frame for 7″ LCD with A20-OLinuXino-LIME inside build-in, which can be attached to any industrial panel/machine with 4 mount screws.

We are also re-layout LIME2 with Micrel PHY which Microchip sell in industrial temperature version. This is something which was holding us off to release complete -45+85C industrial grade LIME2 till now. In two weeks we will test our first Industrial grade LIME2 with SLC eMMC 4GB, Industrial DDR3 memory, Industrial PHY. If everything works flawless we will have soon Industrial grade Linux SBC with LCD in solid metal frame.

BBB – Beautiful Bopla Boxes – professional look for OLinuXino

bbb-1

A20-OLinuXino-MICRO is popular and reliable Single Board Linux computer and people use them in hundreds of applications. One of the problem they face is the absence of good and reliable enclosure.

We are not good in mechanics and leave this to our customers. You remember NOAC engineering made their own:

20160112_134213

Several months ago BOPLA from Germany start ordering A20-OLinuXino-MICRO boards and we were wondering what box company does with them, the mistery is solved, they have nice aluminum profile and for customer of theirs make enclosure with board inside:

bbb-6

The enclosure have VGA connector on the back and all connectors exposed on left and right:

bbb-5

bbb-4

The scratches on the alu surface on the pictures above are done personally by me, the box comes in perfect shape 🙂

Inside the box A20-OLinuXino-MICRO is rised on 4 columns:

bbb-2

This aluminum box solves all noise and outside interferences as works as Faraday case.

The back of the box has two grooves where you can attach telecope or U shape holder.

The part number I see in the box is: 92850142.SYS1

The profiles used are 92850150, 92850200

I still can’t get price from Bopla for these enclosures, but I guess they will be expensive than A20-OLinuXino-MICRO 🙂

One other customer of ours made their own box for A20-OLinuXino-MICRO with 4.3″ and 7″ LCDs, they made ticket payment system for buses with it and the box has also bar code reader and RFID reader. I’m waiting pictures from them to post.

And one week ago another customer send me these pictures:

12736665_10207531996769494_719074783_o

This last design seems easiest to make with laser cut and bending.
